Oil Skimmers, Inc., Customizes Product to Aid Steel Manufacturer

The Model 6V and 5H Oil Skimming Systems can be customized to fit any application.
Cleveland, Ohio, February 22, 2011 – Oil Skimmers, Inc., designed and fabricated an innovative solution to help steel manufacturers in the challenging removal of grease from flume pits that are below ground level.
Oil Skimmers, Inc., fabricated a complete skimming system for a steel manufacturer that had excess grease floating on a flume pit 30 feet below the main plant operations level. The grease needed to be skimmed into a drum and then the drum brought to the main level; the customer elected not to use a pump. The Model 6V oil skimmer was placed on a special mounting frame that included a cart to hold the 55-gallon drum. The cart had a roller system that allowed it to be rolled out from under the Model 6V to approximately 18 inches away from the oil skimmer, where it could be lifted out of the pit using an overhead crane. The system was protected with a fire resistant shroud, and also equipped with a laser level monitor to notify when the drum was full.
Jim Petrucci, Vice President of Oil Skimmers, Inc., explains, “This is a good example of Oil Skimmers, Inc., working closely with our customer to help solve a problem that went beyond simple oil skimming. Our experience with tens of thousands of various applications and the flexibility of our personnel enabled us to come up with this solution tailored to the specific needs of the customer.”

Oil Skimmers, Inc. Offers Decanter System to Maximize Oil Recovery

Cleveland, Ohio, January 2011 — Oil Skimmers, Inc., a leading manufacturer of oil skimming systems, offers an optional decanter that can optimize waste oil recovery in various applications.

Decanters are useful in applications where the skimmed oil may be frothy because they reduce solution loss. They are also helpful in applications where the oil skimmer operates continuously even though oil may not be constantly present. Many customers require the oil skimmer to operate continuously because they do not know when the oil will accumulate in the liquid; a decanter is used to eliminate liquid from collecting during the time that no oil is present. Even the smallest droplets of water or other liquids, such as coolant, can be separated from the removed oil and returned to the area being skimmed by a decanter. A sludge pan is also provided to catch heavy solids that may be present.

The decanter operates on a simple principle – the difference between the specific gravity of oil and water (or other liquids). Oil will separate and float on top of the water/coolant. A specially engineered manifold with an oil weir allows the oil to overflow into a drum or other container, while the water/coolant is continually discharged back into the area being skimmed. The quantity of water or solution accumulation in waste storage containers is minimized, which helps control costs.

The oil recovery systems from Oil Skimmers, Inc. can be customized and sized to any specification.  This includes mounting systems, material of construction, motor voltage and speed, discharge, et cetera. Systems can remove as much as 100 gallons of waste oil per hour. All waste oil can be decanted into drums to be stored or recycled and sold. A durable and simple construction ensures a lifespan of 25 to 30 years for these oil skimmers.

Oil Skimmers Inc. offers long-lasting, customized oil skimming equipment and solutions for diverse manufacturing and industrial applications that require dependable, continuous removal of oil from process liquids and wastewater.
